A spectacular Swiss "Schrank" or armoire, wardrobe or closet was hand crafted of pine about 1800. Exquisite folk art hand painting of local Alpine wildflowers is in beautiful condition and appears original. Delicate carved details are understated and joints have carved wooden pegs.
This antique furniture would have been part of a bride's dowry, and descended to her daughters.
The original giant lock and key still work. Doors have lift off hinges. Inside are two original shelves plus two later removable shelves.
A family history of this armoire from St. Gallen, Switzerland, and its importation to the US in 1968 is included. The town is near the Boden See, in English Lake Constance.
Measurements are 49" wide tip to tip, 20" deep and 73 1/2" tall to the top of the arched crown.
