An imposing armoire, wardrobe or closet is from the late Victorian or Eastlake period about 1885. Carved of solid walnut, the interior is curly "birdseye" maple. The original beveled mirror has a few flaws to show its age.
The restored finish is in excellent condition with warm antique patina, preserving just enough mars and wear for little antique character on this American made furniture. There are shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
There is a working lock on the door. A drawer has original brass pulls and round " pin and cove" dovetail joints of the era. On the back are dovetail joints plus later cable holes.
Inside is an original shelf with an inlaid edge, on the bottom are holes from iron clothes hooks in the days before hangers. A closet pole or more shelves could be installed if desired. This historic piece can be disassembled for moving.
Dimensions are 51" wide tip to tip, 27" deep and 88" tall.
