An exquisite French tall case or grandfather clock from about 50 years ago has an original hand painted red lacquer finish. Crackled and distressed to look antique, there are classical motifs with cherubs. Doors have sidelocks with a key.
The brass movement keeps excellent time for a week on a winding, playing the familiar "Westminster" chime melody on each quarter hour and counting the hour as well. The brass movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled. Inside the top right door is a lever to play another tune. The spring movement is wound by key, pendulum is original. The signature is "Modele Depose, Made in France."
The brass and silver dial is inscribed, "Tempus Fugit," or Time Flies in Latin.
There is just enough wear on the case for a little antique character, and the finish has been preserved with clear lacquer.
Size is 16" wide, 10" deep and 81" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
