This rare mantel clock is signed "Hamilton Sangamo" and has a solid cast bronze patinated case, dating from 1926. The movement has a visible "open" escapement, and is a large 11 jewel watch type movement that has been cleaned and serviced. It keeps accurate time with a two note chime on the hour.
There are gold plated numerals on the silver dial, signed "Sangamo," and the convex door has beveled glass.
The self winding electric motor will keep the clock running for 10 hours if the electric power fails, which was an issue in the 1920's. Beautifully machined, the fine movement has gold plated gears. This clock, Model 5051, sold for a very expensive $169 at the time. The cord is rewired.
Size is 17 1/2" wide, 5" deep and 7 1/2" tall.
