A classic Morbier or "Wag on the Wall" clock from about 1880 is signed by the maker "Hunault" of "La Guerche," France. The embossed brass surround and pendulum have flower and grape motifs and original hand painting. The hand painted porcelain dial has minor hairline cracks, see photos.
Professionally serviced and adjusted, the movement is in a tin case and keeps accurate time for a week on a winding. A gong counts the hour twice (in case you weren't listening) as well as the half hour. There is a winding crank and weights, the calendar does not appear to work correctly.
The tiny village of La Guerche is in the Loire River valley near Tours, and has a famous chateau but only 200 residents in the village today.
Size of the clock is 13" wide, 17 tall and 7" deep, the pendulum is 12" wide and 44" long.
