Titled "Happy Day" by a carving at the base, this hand carved figurine was created in the mid 1950s by Gerald Pat Hannah, a Scottish-Canadian artist who came from a family of expert wood carvers that specialized in Folk Art figurines dressed in traditional New England working class apparel. Carved into the bottom of the piece is the artist's signature, "By Hannah" which dates his piece as post-1950. The artist produced these figures from the 1930s up until his death in 1967.
The sculpture is in very fine condition, with some wear on this vintage piece. The cigar in the man's mouth has been replaced, as many of Hannah's male figures originally held cigars in their mouths that later snapped off.
Size is 3 1/2" wide, 2 1/2" deep and 12" tall.
