A brass surveyor's transit or theodolite from around 1900 is signed, "W. & L. E. Gurley, Troy, NY." There is a wooden case plus a carved solid oak tripod signed, "D. W. Co., Milwaukee."
The instrument has black enamel, there are glass liquid filled levels for both directions. Numerous adjustments surround the large central compass.
The base has a has quadruple screw adjustment. This antique American made scientific instrument has nice old patina.
Instrument size is 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" and 10" tall, the case is 8" x 9 1/2" and 13" tall. Tripod height is 61."
