Japanese Antique Yatate, Bronze Copper Calligraphy Brush Holder & Inkwell #38358

This Japanese Yatate or calligraphy brush holder and inkwell was hand made of solid copper. Bronze reliefs of cranes, sparrow, a fish and a lion wrap the length of the brush holder and covered inkwell.

Yatate date from Medieval Japan and deviated from the earlier Chinese practice of ink stones for calligraphy, this example is about 100 years old.

Size is 14 1/2" long, 3 1/2" wide and 4 1/2" tall.
