This is a top-of-the-line mahogany version of the legendary American roll top desk. A full 54" wide, there are 2 pull-out writing shelves, and the original cast brass hardware. Inside this authentic antique furniture are tiny compartments, drawers, pencil rests, even brass letter holders on the sides.
Signed in the brass escutcheon, "A.H. Andrews Co, Chicago," this desk was made about 1910. All brass pulls and knobs appear original, and the cast iron feet were to protect the legs when floors were mopped.
The roll top operates smoothly. Even the tiny drawers are dovetailed, and some of the long lower drawers have adjustable wooden dividers. The rich reddish finish is excellent, and there are old mars and wear to the edges, see photos. Dimensions are 54" long, 3' deep, 43" tall, the work surface is 29" above the floor, and the kneehole is 25" tall and 23" wide.
