This charming and compact Victorian desk is referred to as a "ship captain's" desk or after its designer, a "Davenport" desk.
Entirely hand-made of solid walnut with burl accents, the writing surface is inlaid with leather. There is a hinged drawer on the right with a penholder and ink bottle, also larger drawers below have hand-cut dovetails. Opposite on the left side are matching false drawer fronts for symmetry.
Authentic antique furniture from about 1870, this exquisite desk is signed "Meader of Cincinnati, Ohio" in the compartment under the lid, and is finished on all sides. The finish is in excellent condition.
Measurements are 26" wide, 20" deep and 36" tall, the writing surface slants from 30 1/2" to 32" above the floor.
