This stately tall case or grandfather clock has the deep resonance of a 5 note tubular chime operated by an original brass movement, signed "Colonial," engraved with the latest patent date of 1919. Familiar Westminster chimes are on the quarter hour plus the hour strikes on resonant nickel tubular chimes.
Our very experienced clockmaker recognizes the movement and chime as being made for Colonial by Herschede, an outstanding American clockmaker. The brass movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, and runs perfectly - there are switches for silent or strike and chime.
A classical solid mahogany case has a pediment top, fluted columns and the finish is excellent with minor mars at the edges. Lower door glass is beveled and side doors give easy access to this antique American furniture.
Brass weights and pendulum bob are original. The hand engraved brass dial is especially beautiful. Measurements are 23" wide, 17" deep and 6'7" tall.
