An authentic New England tall case or grandfather clock has a cherrywood case and dates from as early as 1790. Georgian influence shows in the simple Yankee design. The case has an excellent finish, and hand-cut nails are visible on this historic antique furniture.
In fine running order, the 8 day handmade brass unsigned movement strikes the hour. The brass pendulum appears original, the winding crank is a modern replacement.
Chips to the hand-painting on the iron dial suggest that the paint is also original, inscribed with an American eagle and the Latin words, "Tempus Fugit," or Time Flies.
Dimensions of this classic Federal period timepiece are 19" wide, 11" deep and 7'2" tall.
