This marvelous solid mahogany dining table was carved during the American Empire period, about 1825. Crafted as a dining or breakfast table, it can serve as a lovely sofa, buffet or foyer table as well.
The artistry in the large pedestal and paw feet is exceptional. Top and sides are single planks of gorgeously figured mahogany, with a characteristic hand-carved "butterfly" set into the bottom of one dropleaf to stabilize a shrinkage separation that could be original.
The gleaming finish is excellent. Drop leaves are well supported by mahogany swing-out arms on carved hinges. Solid and very usable antique furniture, this historic table is said to be from New York.
Dimensions when closed are 25" wide, 4' long and 31 1/2" tall, opened size is 55" long by 4' wide.
