A wonderful sculpture of an exhausted Olympic athlete holds a laurel sprig, the traditional Greek symbol of victory. Still in motion, his hands are raised in triumph.
Signed "Georges Badla" in script on the base, it is initialed "AJF" on the backside plus undecipherable marks and the foundry stamp, "Fabrication Francais, Paris, Made in France."
This antique alloy or spelter statue has a matte bronze overlay and beautiful deep patina. Sculpted about 1910, the green marble base has minor chips at the edges. The only damage we see to this work of art is a repaired forefinger - see photos. A dramatic and three dimensional statue, height is 32."
