Magnificently hand-carved in solid oak with game and birds, one holding a fish, a Victorian Black Forest hunt cabinet or bookcase shows masterful craftsmanship.
Located in the Alps around the border of Switzerland and Germany, the Black Forest area is famous for its carving and cuckoo clocks. Made entirely by hand, the three-dimensional carving and spiral columns are as good as they come. Drawers are hand dovetailed. Some of the adjustable shelves on wooden supports are warped, see photos.
The deep finish is original except for the top of the base, and is in exceptional condition for antique furniture from the 1870's.
The crown and upper section are removable. Dimensions are 57" wide, 24" deep, 8'8" tall and the base cabinet is 43" high.
