This late Victorian or Eastlake period cylinder or barrel rolltop secretary desk with bookcase top dates from the 1880's. Very well-proportioned, it is made of solid walnut with incised geometric carving - characteristic of the period. The finish is excellent, and behind original wavy glass doors are adjustable bookshelves.
The roll raises smoothly and has a curved matched burl panel. Inside are tiny cubby holes for papers, a tiny drawer and a slide-out writing surface with saddle leather. Engraved brasses are original.
The upper section is removable for easier handling of this American antique furniture. Measurements are 6" 10" tall, 36" wide, 22" deep, and 29" from the floor to the slide out writing surface.
