This is a playful sculpture of the Greek God Pan, who carries his panpipes and is tussling with a goat. Pan is the God of shepherds and sheep, hunting, rustic music and is also associated with fertility and springtime.
He is a satyr, and has the hindquarters of a goat, and his musical instrument is also called a panflute.
The old gold finish on the cast metal figures has wonderful antique patina. Dating from about 1900, these statues are mounted on a green marble plinth.
Size of this European work of art is 11 1/2" long, 4" deep and 7 1/2" tall.
