A massive hand-carved oak fireplace mantel and surround has the family heraldic crest from a chateau or castle in the Loire River valley in France. Deeply carved oak leaves and acorns, "linen-fold" side panels, and spiral columns on the front all show spectacular artistry.
The solid oak is bare of any finish, it will need some gluing at installation. Secured with carved wooden pegs at the joints, this antique home furniture is structurally sound. There are shrinkage separations, losses and stains.
This remarkable historic architectural mantel dates from the late 1800's, and is in three separate pieces. Measurements are 7'4" wide, 33" deep, 7'1" tall, the fire opening is 47" wide and 54" tall.
