Hand made in the later 1800's, a genuine mercury stick barometer is signed, "B. Caprani." We cannot find any information on this maker, but other "Caprani" barometer makers worked in Leicester and Norwich in England during the 1800's.
The mahogany case has inlaid banding and a very fine finish. The polished and hand engraved plate shows Fahrenheit scale temperatures from freezing at 32 to "blood heat" at 98.6. Barometric pressure was accurate when we checked against local weather conditions. On the back, screws secure a wooden cover to the glass tube.
Because of the mercury, this antique scientific weather instrument from England cannot be shipped by the Post Office, Fed Ex, UPS, etc. and must be picked up at our gallery or other arrangements made.
Size of this charming antique is 39" tall, 5 1/2" wide and 2" deep.
