Made for book keeper at a bank about 1890, this solid oak slant top desk was used standing or with a tall stool.
The finish is in excellent condition, enhancing the figured quarter sawn oak. There are stains and mars for antique character and patina. Three deep drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and working locks.
This American made antique office furniture can be unscrewed and separated for easier moving. The frame is rigid and strong. An upper gallery held ledgers and accounting journals.
Recalling the famous story of "Bartleby the Scrivener" or Bob Cratchit of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," size is 6' long, 31" deep, 55" tall and the desk top slopes up from 41 1/2" high at the front edge.
