Brittany French Antique Carved King Size Bed

This antique bed from Brittany has been adapted to fit modern king size bedding, and was hand-carved of solid chestnut and oak with folk motifs. Brittany or Bretagne is a maritime province of northwest France. Formerly a separate country, the "Breton" language is still spoken. Famous for their cultural traditions and distinctive dress, the local hand-carved furniture has outstanding workmanship, using native local hardwoods with picturesque traditional motifs.

The finish is excellent on this heirloom furniture, which traditionally descended with the daughters of a family, as part of their dowry. Side rails are richly carved as well, and dimensions are 6'10" wide, 7'1" long, the headboard is 5'1" tall, the footboard is 38" tall. WEBO
