Country French 1890 Antique Hand Carved Oak Secretary Desk. Leather Top

An authentic Country French secretary desk was expertly hand carved of solid oak about 1890.

The original finish is very well preserved, and has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to preserve its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are shrinkage separations from age and a few ink stains, see photos. On several drawer bottoms are hand written French scripts.

Pull out arms support the drop front when opened. Drawers have solid oak sides with hand cut dovetail joints. The old leather writing surface is nicely worn. Side panels are raised and there are hand planing marks everywhere.

Only the drop and top drawer have working keys. Cast brass hardware is original on this antique Provincial furniture from France.

Measurements are 43" wide, 20" deep and 40" tall, the desk top is 30 1/2" high.
