Country French Antique Cherry Hanging Cupboard, Pie Safe #29287

A Country French hanging or wall mount cupboard is solid wormy cherry, hand crafted about 1870. Punched tin door panels allowed ventilation for fresh bakery, called a "pie safe" in English. Brass hardware is original, including lift off hinges.

The original finish is very well preserved, waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Every surface is hand planed, sides show mortise joints. There are shrinkage separations and warps from age, see photos. Joints have carved wooden pegs on this antique furniture from France.

Size is 52" wide tip to tip, 18" deep and 42" tall.
