Hand crafted of wormy ash and fruitwood for a large country farmhouse about 1860, a straightforward dough box could serve as a sofa, hall or work table. The base and the lid are separate pieces, all secured with some original square nails and wooden pegs.
Hand planed wide planks have a very fine finish with lots of stain, wear and losses for antique character. This rustic kitchen furniture would have held a large quantity of bread dough as it "proofed" or rises before baking.
You can almost smell the aroma of fresh bread! Measurements are 58" long, 22" deep and 29" tall.
