Made for a railroad station about 1905, a Craftsman or Arts and Crafts period tall slant top desk was used either standing or with a stool.
Solid mahogany and birch hardwood, the deep rich finish is excellent on all sides. Clean lines reflect the period on this rugged American antique office furniture. There are three large drawers in the upper section, the base is separate for easier moving.
This design was used in many accounting and office settings in an era when it was thought that a bookkeeper or ticket agent might fall asleep if seated in a chair. Today, working on a stool or standing is a welcome relief for many people. These desks have also been favored by artists.
Size is 6' long, 27" deep, height slopes up from 41 1/2" in the front to 43" tall at the back.
