Called a "Davenport" after its English inventor, Col. Davenport, this style of desk was also termed "ship captain's," popular on board because of their efficient use of space.
This elegant desk is solid walnut with burl panels, the satiny finish is in excellent condition with a few mars at the edges for character. Golds tooled leather with a few mars is inset into the writing surface, underneath is a tiny drawer plus cubicles for papers. Drawers have pin and cove dovetails and original brass pulls on this American made antique furniture.
Size is 30" wide, 24" deep, 32" tall to the top of the book gallery, the desk slopes up from 28" high at the front edge.
