A magnificent late Victorian or Eastlake period bedroom set includes a bed adapted to fit queen size bedding and a marble top dresser with a pull-out desk and mirror.
Richly carved of solid walnut with burl panels, the incised "spoon" or chip carving is characteristic of the period, about 1875. The finish is excellent, with glowing warm patina and intricate detailing.
Adapted and shown with standard modern queen size mattress and spring, the bed measures 83" long, 5' 4" wide, the headboard is 6' tall and the footboard is 3' tall.
The chest or dresser is remarkable, the pull out desk appears to have its original velvet bordered in tooled leather and inkwell, it slides forward and flips open. The original plate glass mirror has just enough "smoke" to show its age. Three sections of marble are excellent, they also appear original. Drawers are dovetailed, and brass wheels are also original. Measurements of this stately American antique furniture are 4' 7" wide, 24" deep and 6' 10" tall.
