An original English oil painting on canvas from the 1850's depicts a young woman eavesdropping at a door, a young man's feathered hat is on the steps and her dog is pulling her away.
The rest of the evocative story is unclear, but could be imagined. The indistinct signature on this antique work of art appears to be "Briollet." Wonderful technique is shown, especially in the lighting and foliage. Paint has crackling from age, the original gilt wood frame has wear and touchups.
Overall size is 26" wide, 33" tall and 2" deep.
