English Watson of Blackburn Antique 1820 Tall or Long Case Grandfather Clock

Signed "J'no Watson of Blackburn," England this 1820's era tall or long case grandfather clock keeps accurate time and runs a week on a winding.

The original brass movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, and strikes a bell counting the hour.

An original hand painted iron plate dial has wear and losses as shown, engraved hand cut brass hands appear original.

The old finish is in very fine condition with warm patina, there are shrinkage separations from age, restorations plus minor mars at the edges for antique character. Oak wood has mahogany banding and columns. Door glass is old and wavy. The case has a replaced lock, a modern winding crank is included with this historic furniture.

Blackburn is in Lancashire, northeast of Liverpool. The textile mill town is listed in the Domesday book from 1086 AD and is noted for the remains of a Roman temple and it medieval cathedral.

Dimensions of this elegant British clock are 23" wide, 10" deep and 7' 7 1/2" tall.

This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
