A 1900 era statue of "Esmeralda" from Victor Hugo's "Hunchback of Notre Dame" is signed by noted French sculptor "A.J. Scotte" who lived 1867-1925.
A kind hearted Gypsy girl in the story, she is accompanied by her clever pet goat, "Djali." Playing the tambourine, she is dancing seductively in this naturalistic work of art.
The sculpture has an original bronze patinated finish on spelter, a white metal alloy similar to pewter. There is a tiny hairline crack that is stable on her right arm, see photos. The base is 8" across and size is 23" tall.
