A magnificent marble and bronze mantel clock from France has a girl on a swing as a pendulum. Signed "Chappement Brevete," this exquisite antique keeps accurate time and chimes the hour and the half on a silvery bell.
The brass 8 day movement is extremely sensitive to leveling if it is to keep running because of a double escapement and swinging pendulum that moves front to back instead of sideways. There are four bronze feet that turn to adjust to level on the black base. Very subtle leveling adjustment is needed to run. This historic timepiece was meant for a marble mantel and needs a very stable place to sit.
Cabochon shaped marble mounts, bronze birds with nest and lion heads are all marvelous. There are minor flakes at the edges of the classical carved marble case, see photos.
Measurements are 14" wide, 6" deep and 18" tall.
