A traditional French provincial tall case or grandfather clock is signed by the maker in "La Chapelle Moche," near Caen in Normandy, west of Paris.
The clock has an 8 day movement that keeps excellent time and has been professionally serviced and oiled. The enameled dial has a calendar hand. A bell strikes the half hour plus a double strike on the hour, repeating again in case you weren't listening closely.
The embossed brass dial surround and large pendulum have original painting. A pot bellied pine case is original faux grain painted, with hand striping and some shrinkage separations from age.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
Measurements are 20" wide, 9" deep and 89 1/2" tall. Wavy "antique" glass and the winding crank are later.
