Carved about 1770 during the Georgian or Chippendale period, this classic "looking glass" or wall mirror is mahogany with delicate inlaid satinwood stringing.
The glass mirror has wondrous deterioration, the silvering creates an intricate "painting." The old finish is very fine with warm antique patina. Visible on the back are numerous braces from over a century ago to support the delicate frame, there have been breaks and repairs, see photos.
The back panel is also an old replacement, we removed to photo the backside of the glass. Pine secondary wood suggests this historic piece is American rather than British made. Overall size is 43" tall and 24" wide.
