A traditional German matrimonial "Schrank" or armoire is signed with the bride and grooms names in old "Schrift" or script and dated "1812."
Hand crafted of pine with original paint, a coat of clear varnish protects the antique character with mars, dings and shrinkage separations from age. There are hand planing marks and carved square wooden pegs at the joints.
This furniture separates down the middle to move, doors have raised panels and lift off hinges. The interior has been fitted with a later divider and shelves that are removable, a closet pole could be installed if desired. Square nails and hardware are hand wrought iron on this historic European furniture.
A giant key works the original lock, "double throw" or two turns each way, the key does not remove from the lock.
Measurements of this picturesque folk art cabinet are 76" wide at the crown, 26" deep and 79" tall, interior depth is 21."
