Entirely original from the 1920's, this tall case or grandfather clock is signed by one of Germany's most famous makers, "Gustav Becker."
The mahogany case has its original finish very well preserved with a little crackling or crazing for antique character, see photos. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its soft sheen.
The brass eight day movement keeps excellent time, it has been professionally adjusted and oiled. Familiar "Westminster" chime tune from Big Ben on Parliament in London plays each quarter hour and the hour is counted on each hour. Over the brass pendulum and weights is a beveled glass door. The dial is richly engraved on this historic furniture.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location. Measurements are 23 1/2" wide, 15" deep and 85" tall.
