Kelvin Hughes Smith Antique English Nautical Binnacle Ship Compass #29665

A binnacle or ship's compass was made in the early 1900's, signed "Kelvin Hughes Div., S. Smith & Sons, England," on the outer brass plate. The compass itself floats in all directions with a spring suspension.

The base is mahogany with well worn old varnish and several curved doors with electrical connections, all mounts are solid brass. There is a tube holder for rolled nautical charts or maps on the backside of this nautical salvage. A bottom mounting pedestal has worn paint.

The compass floats inside a removable well worn brass hood with rear access. On both sides are iron "compensating" balls to adjust the compass.

Measurements are 32" wide, 23" deep and 57" tall, 47" tall without the removable cover.
