Signed by famed maker, "Kirby Beard & Co." this 1890 era fusee clock movement with original chime wire gongs, pendulum and dial was made for a grandfather or long case which is not included.
The movement works and keeps accurate time for us, but because there is no case, we cannot operate the Whittington or Westminster chimes or strike. We see that one of the flat wire gongs is missing, also several hammers.
Kirby Beard dates from 1743, they made top quality clocks until the factory in Birmingham, England was bombed in WW II. Their renowned shop was located at 5 rue Auber in Paris, where other luxury brand clocks and watches were sold as well.
The lavish dial and attached movement measure 12 1/2" wide, 15 1/2" tall and 7" deep. Size of the chime assembly is 13 1/2" wide, 7 1/2" tall and 3" deep, the pendulum and rod are 45" long.
