Last Day of Pompeii 1870 Antique French Engraving, Oak Frame

Entitled in French, "The Last Day of Pompeii at the House of the Poetess," this 1870 era engraving has a tear down the center, see photos. Inscriptions indicate this engraving from France is after a painting of "J. Coomans."

A classical sybaritic scene depicts the well attended by a poetess reclining in an opulent Roman villa next to the atrium. All are unaware of impending doom when Vesuvius erupts the next day, burying Pompeii.

The mat is modern, the original oak frame, wavy glass and liner are American.

Overall size of this antique work of art is 41 1/2" wide, 36" tall and 1 1/2" deep.
