Hand made about 1880, this portable military field desk was often called "campaign" furniture. Square corners are brass to protect the desk when transported for army officers using handles on the sides.
Solid oak with walnut panels, the drawers and edges are all hand dovetailed. The desk has marvelous patina with lots of character - mars, wear stains and shrinkage separations.
Inside are drawers and compartments. The separate base is later, probably 75 years old. Key and lock are operational. Dimensions are 30" wide, 15" deep, 55" tall, the writing surface is 31 1/2" above the floor.
