Expertly crafted in Germany about 1910, an oak tall case or grandfather clock has a beautiful brass dial, pendulum and weights.
The 8 day original brass movement keeps excellent time, there is a double strike on five resonant notes on the half and on the hour. Pull chains wind the movement, which has been oiled and is signed with an eagle and "FMS" for Frederick Mauthe und Sohne (Sons), a famous clockmaker in the Black Forest region of southern Germany and Switzerland.
The upper glass is convex, the lower door pane is shaped and beveled. The original dark finish is very well preserved, there are shrinkage separations from age on this antique clock, see photos.
Size is 21" wide, 12" deep and 6' 6 1/2" tall to the top of the graceful arch.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
