Signed "Brandmann of Berlin, Germany," this classic oak tall case or grandfather clock dates from about 1915. The original finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
The brass movement keeps accurate time and runs a week on a pull chain winding. Hand hammered brass dial, weights and pendulum are original on this European antique furniture. The hour is counted and the half sounds on a two chord chime, click below to hear a recording. An iron bar with chime rods is signed "Divina, Made in Germany." The dial glass is convex, the lower glass is beveled.
Size is 19 1/2" wide, 10" deep and 76" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
