A wonderful pair of solid wormy walnut bookcases or china cabinets was hand carved in the Renaissance manner with rich detail, deep moldings and lion paws. This matched furniture pair was created about 1890 for a palazzo in northern Italy.
The original finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are shrinkage separations and just enough mars for a little character.
Doors have wrought iron grills over stained glass. Deep shelves adjust on later brackets. Keys operate the locks on this antique library furniture.
Size is 53 1/2" wide tip to tip, 24" deep and 75 1/2" tall, interior depth is 18."
