Called a "plantation" desk, this style of desk was used to manage a plantation or large farm about 1860. There are compartments for ledgers, bills and mail, a spiral spring device held business cards.
The finish is in excellent condition on solid walnut, there are a few stains and mars for antique character, see photos. An upper section has locking doors and is removable for easier delivery.
The slanted desk top is genuine leather, drawers below have hand cut dovetail joints on this American made and very functional antique furniture.
Size is 57 1/2" wide, 30" deep, 61 1/2" tall and the writing surface slopes from 29" at the front to 32" at the back.
