Entirely hand-made about 1800, this country primitive "courting" or fireside bench is very similar to the antique bench in Anne Hathaway's cottage where William Shakespeare courted her in Stratford on Avon.
Well worn yet sturdy and totally usable, this historic bench is entirely hand made of pine and chestnut, held together with carved wooden pegs. Hand planing and chamfered panels are visible.
The finish is excellent, and the warm golden patina is radiant on this antique furniture. Paneled doors give access to storage under the seat.
Size is 53" wide, 21" deep, 47" tall, and the seat is 16" high.
