Made for an Illinois railroad station in the 1860's, this spectacular standing or stool height desk was hand crafted of solid cherry.
There are single planks of cherry that are 24" wide, turned legs are cut from single logs. There are places where the golden "sapwood" from just under the bark is visible. Drawers as well as the case have hand cut dovetail joints on this American made antique furniture.
The restored satiny finish is in excellent condition, preserving various shrinkage separations and warps from age, see photos. Inside and on the back are marks of hand planing. There are three separate sections stack for easier moving. Under the lift lids is storage space.
Size is 88" long, 36" deep and 71" tall. The angled desk area slopes up from 45 1/2"" at the front to 50" at the back.
