A sculpture from about 1890 depicts a hunter in Renaissance garb with his dog and a stag slung over the saddle of his horse.
Finely detailed, this statue is "spelter," a white metal alloy similar to pewter. The charcoal black finish is very well preserved, there is minor wear but no damage that we can see to this handsome statue. His hand rests on his musket as he gazes at his dog, and his dog is looking at the stag.
There is no signature, so this work of art looks to be northern European, but similar castings were also made in America. This lifelike group of figures predates the export treaty rules that later required a country of origin.
Measurements of this three dimensional work are 13" long, 8" deep and 13" tall.
