A "melodeon" from the 1840's is an ancestor of the reed organ, and still works if the pedals are vigorously pumped. The genuine rosewood case has a very fine old finish with warm antique patina.
American made furniture, we see no signature. White keys are genuine ivory, all but a couple play. This is the only double bellows melodeon we have ever seen. There are mars and scratches plus shrinkage separations from age in the octagonal legs, see photos. The lid closes to form a console table.
Dimensions of this picturesque musical instrument are 49" wide, 25" deep and 33" tall.
