This style of Italian made "Savonarola" armchair was named after the fiery monk of Florence, famous for the "Bonfire of Vanities" in the early Renaissance.
Hand carved of solid walnut in the early 1900's, there is a family crest of winged lions and a crown, three dimensional hand carved lion heads and paw feet. The restored finish is in excellent condition on this antique furniture from Italy. There are various restorations over the years, and this antique furniture has been reglued to serve another generation and is tight and strong. The seat is newly upholstered in natural saddle leather.
Size is 26" wide, 22" deep and 40 1/2" tall. The seat height is 18" and depth is 17.".
