A charming New England Sheraton period half-round or "demilune" table has a rear dropleaf that raises to form a roughly round table. Originally a separate dining table for children, it was stored against the dining room wall as a console with the leaf dropped down.
This 1825 era table has exceptionally graceful hand-turned legs and a carved wooden hinge for the rear gateleg. Solid cherry with beautifully figured grain, the curved front apron or skirt is exquisite curly grain cherry.
Legs are pegged, all surfaces are hand-planed - this sturdy antique shows outstanding Yankee craftsmanship.
The satiny finish is excellent, measurements with the leaf down are 42" wide, 22" deep and 26 1/2" tall; when open, the table is more or less round and 42" in diameter.
