A traditional English slant top desk like this was called a "Davenport" after its inventor and also a "ship captain's" desk, because of its tiny footprint yet lots of storage was functional on a ship. Hand carved of figured burl walnut, there is an upper gallery that opens to compartments and a pen rest.
The restored finish is in very fine condition, preserving lots of stains, dings and mars for antique character on the wood and on the tooled leather. Side drawers have solid mahogany sides with hand cut dovetail joints. The left side and and interior have false drawer fronts. Under the lid is storage, inside are old stains from permanent ink.
Measurements are 22" wide, 23" deep, 34" tall and the top slopes up from 28" high at the front.
